Perdition
Perdition is a Game Jam game, my teammate Mike M and I spent 24 hours working on it. It was one of my best learning experiences to date. 12 hours in we got a critical bug which would not let our map be used how we wanted. We instantly had a meeting and decided to use the bug to our advantage. We threw out almost every piece of code we spent 12 hours working and and built a game around this new Feature. 8 hours later we had Perdition.
PERDITION RECAP
October 2017, IGDA Chicago Hosted a Game Jam 'Spooky Jam 2017'. My Teammate Mike M and I entered to meet the community and have fun, we had decided ahead of time to make a fun and simple game to show off our programming and design skills. Upon arrival they were still setting up so we helped out and waited for others to arrive, lets skip ahead to the start.
The theme that was giving was Cyberpunk, we spent the next 10 minutes mapping out a development schedule and gave ourselves an hour to figure out what we would be making. After throwing out idea after idea we stumbled across the idea of a cyber jail where an AI would be assisting you to escape and help you out along the way.
I got to work right away, I really wanted a interactive world that once you damaged something it stayed like that. Since it was a 'virtual prison' anything they damaged would of been the code of the system. Skip ahead 8 hours, we are now halfway through the Jam, We combined our projects for about the 4th time that day. Except this time when I clicked play, my perfectly aligned cube map was exploding everywhere
